Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR) is the U.S. military’s operational name for the military intervention against ISIS. Unlike their coalition partners, and unlike previous combat operations, no name was initially given to the conflict against ISIS by the U.S. government. Subsequently, the U.S. decided to name its military efforts against ISIS in October 2014, naming it Operation Inherent Resolve.
The name was intended to reflect the unwavering resolve and deep commitment of the U.S. and partner nations in the region and around the globe to eliminate the terrorist group ISIS. This footage contains images of the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) conducting flight operations in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. George H.W. Bush is deployed in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of maritime security operations designed to reassure allies and partners, and preserve the freedom of navigation and the free flow of commerce in the region. It’s great to see the good American taxpayers dollars do not only in America, but also around the world.
