Kate Mara stars in the upcoming film “Megan Leavey” a true story about a young Marine corporal in the K9 unit named Megan Leavey who was paired with a military combat dog named Rex.
The pair were deployed to Iraq on two separate occasions and developed an inseparable bond. They were deployed to Fallujah in 2005 and Ramadi in 2006 and completed more than 100 missions.
The film tells the story of Leavey’s life beginning with the death of her best friend and enlisting in the Marine Corps. After being assigned to clean up the K9 unit following a disciplinary hearing, Leavey connected with an aggressive military dog named Rex.
Both of them were injured by an IED and Leavey suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury and Rex’s shoulder was injured in the blast.
