In Netflix’s recent trailer for “War Machine,” Brad Pitt can be seen playing a United States general during the war in Afghanistan.
The film is inspired by the bestselling book “The Operators: The Wild and Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War in Afghanistan” by late American journalist Michael Hastings.
The film, which was produced by Netflix and Pitt’s production company, Plan B Entertainment, is set for release on May 26, 2017.
The book is based on Hasting’s interviews with General Stanley McChrystal who was appointed to command NATO’s International Security Assistance Force in the war in Afghanistan in 2009.
Brad Pitt plays Gen. Dan McMahon, a character based on General McChrystal.
Hastings wrote the book based on his travels with McChrystal and his team in April 2010. The book included quotations from 20 hours of audio recordings from McChrystal and his inner circle.
