New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft is hoping his long-time friend, President Donald Trump can do him a favor and help him get back his “stolen” ring that is in the hands of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“I do have an emotional attachment to that ring,” Kraft told Fox News on Sunday.
During a meeting in 2005, Kraft allowed Putin to try the ring on. Putin has yet to return it to Kraft.
“I could kill someone with this ring,” Putin reportedly said, Kraft recalled during a speech.
After letting Putin try it on, Kraft stuck out his hand to retrieve the ring, but Putin pocketed the ring and three KGB agents surrounded him.
“It would really be in the best interest of US-Soviet relations if you meant to give the ring as a present,” Kraft said he was told on the White House call. “I really didn’t [want to]. I had an emotional tie to the ring, it has my name on it. I don’t want to see it on eBay. There was a pause on the other end of the line, and the voice repeated, ‘It would really be in the best interest if you meant to give the ring as a present.'”
Kraft said he would be willing to make Putin another ring.
“I was willing to have one made with his (Putin) name on it,” Kraft said. “Maybe we will have the new president bring it to him when he connects with him.”
