A Navy veteran was struck and killed by a snowplow in the parking lot of a Massachusetts Veterans Administration hospital on Sunday.
Police arrived on scene at the parking lot of the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford shortly before 6 pm.
The Middlesex district attorney says 60-year-old Gerald Flynn was struck by the rear of the plow truck as it was backing up. The operator stopped immediately and called 911 where he stayed and cooperated with authorities.
Flynn was transported to Lahey Hospital in Burlington, where he was pronounced dead.
The incident is under investigation and no one has been charged.
Flynn is a Navy veteran who, according to police, lived in nearby V.A. housing.
“The Bedford VA staff is devastated by the tragic incident and our thoughts and prayers are with the victim, his family, friends, and neighbors,” hospital spokeswoman Courtney Purswell wrote in an e-mail to the Boston Globe.
