At about 6 AM Thursday morning, Twitter users began noticing that “Kill Mike Flynn” was among the top trending on the social media platform. A report from the Daily Caller which detailed the political hit job former Obama staffers carried out against Mike Flynn to force him to resign from his position as national security advisor sparked the phrase to be used, then the phrase began trending for the next few hours.
The Daily Caller story explained the hit job that was donned “Kill Mike Flynn.”
“This was a hit job,” charged retired Col. James Williamson, a 32-year Special Forces veteran who coordinated his operations with the intelligence community.
Noting the Obama administration first tried to silence Flynn in 2014 when the former president fired him as director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, Williamson called Monday’s resignation, “stage Two of ‘Kill Mike Flynn.”
Flynn’s son, Michael Flynn Jr. noticed the trend and tweeted in response.
“So … allowing ‘kill mike flynn’ 2 trend/Rgrdless of origin/assumng ur not trying 2 promte my father getting assassinated, right?” he said.
The trend continued for another few hours, but appeared to be gone from the top U.S. trends by noon. Much of the reason why the trend continued was that a growing number of people took to Twitter to show their disgust that the social media platform would let an apparent request for an assassination attempt continue.
