Boston Dynamics has created a new way to improve on robotic technology by creating a “nightmare inducing” robot that can perform stunts and move at high speeds on two wheels.
In the video, Boston Dynamics’ founder Marc Raibert shows off the company’s newest robot, Handle, in a presentation to potential investors.
The robot was designed to carry objects around. By adjusting its weight, it is able to handle heavier things without falling over. Raibert said that the robot could be used to transport goods within a factory or a warehouse.
The robot can be seen moving at high speeds and stopping in an instant, spinning on its axis and jumping over obstacles.
Raibert described Handle as an “experiment in combining wheels with legs, with a very dynamic system that is balancing itself all the time and has a lot of knowledge of how to throw its weight around,” adding that it is “a nightmare-inducing robot.”
The robot appears to be effective as it can easily get around without much resistance. It may have difficulty getting over rough terrain since it is on wheels however.
