A Video Saluting The Final 9/11 Search And Rescue Dog Before Being Put Down

February 16, 2017

Watch and hold back your tears as members of the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department give a hero’s salute to the final 9/11 search and rescue dog before being put down.

Bretagne, 16, was a golden retriever who was amongst the more than 300 search and rescue dogs that were deployed to Ground Zero after the 911 attacks.

She was put down at Fairfield Animal Hospital to a hero’s salute. Her body was draped over the American flag as she left the office.

She joined the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department in 2000 and eventually retired years ago. She worked as a search and rescue dog during multiple natural disasters such as Hurricane Rita, Hurricane Ivan and Hurricane Katrina.

RIP Bretagne. You are a hero.
