Exercise Southern Strike is an annual Joint Forces Exercise that puts Special Operations Forces to the test. The 1st Special Operations Wing works with Joint Forces to enhance readiness and relevance on today’s battlefield. This exercise assesses and emphasizes command and control functionality in all U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) mission areas and affords component commands a venue to evaluate their joint operational readiness.
Southern Strike 17 is a total force, multi-service training exercise that was hosted by the Mississippi Air National Guard’s Combat Readiness Training Center in Gulfport, Miss. The exercise emphasized air-to-air, air-to-ground and special operations forces training opportunities. These events were integrated into demanding hostile and asymmetric scenarios with actions from specialized ground forces, combat and mobility air forces. This video shows a C-17 Globemaster III taxiing and taking off at the Gulfport Combat Readiness Training Center, Miss., ready to bring its awesome landing capabilities to the party during Southern Strike 17. That’s an incredible asset to have in the mix.
