Katie Rich, a writer for the decades-old comedy show “Saturday Night Live,” found herself in hot water last week after making a controversial joke about the new President’s 10-year-old son. Rich took to Twitter to share a one-liner that targeted Barron Trump which many didn’t find too funny.
“Barron will be this country’s first homeschool shooter,” she tweeted on Friday, during President Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony.
The backlash that came from her insensitive comment was strong, so much so that she deleted her entire Twitter history. She later tweeted an apology.
“I sincerely apologize for the insensitive tweet. I deeply regret my actions & offensive words. It was inexcusable & I’m so sorry,” Rich said.
Nearly 79,000 people signed a Change.org petition for her to be fired. The response from the public was so strong that Saturday Night Live has indefinitely suspended Rich from her position.
