A VA police captain was honored last week after helping save the life of a veteran.
VA police Capt. Roger Humphries was awarded a VA national heroism award during a ceremony on Thursday at the Marion campus of the VA Northern Indiana Health Care System.
He was honored with the award for “selfless heroism” while on patrol at the facility on June 16, 2016.
That day, he was dispatched to a Code Blue medical emergency, and after finding an unconscious veteran there, he performed CPR while directing the response of other emergency personnel.
Officials said that because of his actions, Humphries went “above and beyond the call of duty in service to the citizens and veterans of this nation.”
