Sometimes a news story resonates with someone enough that they feel compelled to step in and help.
On Tuesday, Dec. 27, a 14-year-old was riding his hoverboard near his home when two adult men shoved him off and stole it. The boy gave pursuit for a moment, but stopped when a vehicle pulled up next to him and the driver pointed a gun at him. The entire incident was captured on a nearby surveillance camera.
Officer Brian Pollard saw the story on the news and decided to take action. Officer Pollard and the Fourth District Police organized an effort to surprise the boy with a new hoverboard.
“To know that this is just a normal kid minding his own business, in his own neighborhood having fun, it really bothered me a lot. I felt I needed to do something,” said Officer Pollard.
