On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke at an annual end-of-the-year meeting with the Russian Defense Ministry and boasted that their military was stronger than any other in the world.
“We can say with certainty: we are stronger now than any potential aggressor,” Putin said, “Anyone!”
Although Putin said he believes the Russian military will be able to take on anyone with confidence, it doesn’t mean it’s time for their nation to relax.
“There is still much work to be done,” Putin said.
He thanked the Defense Ministry for their work but added that, “If we let ourselves relax even for a minute, delay the modernization of the armed forces or military training, the situation may change in no time.”
Putin also added that Russia has been closely following any threats to its borders, noting that NATO members have conducted multiple drills around it ever since Russia’s annexation in Crimea. He said that Russia should be quick in “adjusting plans to neutralize potential threats to our country.”
Before Putin spoke in front of the Russian Defense ministry, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu stated that “for the first time in its history” Russia has fully covered the Russian border with anti-missile systems. Shoigu also commented on NATO’s unwanted presence in the region.
