Lieutenants are usually on the receiving end of jokes when coming into a new unit for not having enough experience. However, this his lieutenant proves that he is not in that category. First lieutenant James Salka took quick action when he was being surrounded on all sides by the enemy. Snipers were taking out some of them, but they still were taking heavy fire. EVAC arrived but while they were running to the scene, they had a man go down.
Lt Salka immediately grabbed the injured soldier and carried him to the ‘copter for EVAC. This is just one of many stories reminding us how our amazing military members show their selfless service and protect their brothers and sisters in arms.
