Last Tuesday, over a thousand British Muslims gathered in the streets of Londons and called for the establishment of a caliphate. Just a few days later on Saturday, a couple hundred gathered in London once more to take part in a second rally which made the same sentiments. Saturday’s event was organized after online leaflets were posted just one day in advance.
“Never forget who is the problem here,” Asim Qureshi, director of the Muslim rights group CAGE, said on Tuesday; according to Breitbart News.
“When they say ‘look, America is the one who is going to come and help you in this’, then we have to remind them. Go back to the beginning of the war on terror when we were investigating cases of individuals being put on rendition flights to Syria where they had the soles of their feet beaten by the Syrian regime the moment they arrived in prison.”
“And who sent them there? The Americans, the CIA,” he continued.
Women and children were pushed to the back of the crowd gathered outside of the Syrian embassy, where rally speakers were leading chants which blamed the U.S. for the situation in Syria. Some chanted while some gathered around a large orange banner directed “muslim armies” to set up a new “khalifah rashidah” in Syria to combat the West.
“USA, you will pay,” the crowd can be heard chanting.
“Muslim armies march forward. Have no fear, victory is near,” one sign read.
Saturday’s event gained quite a large following despite being planned and shared only one day in advance.
Though it is not clear who organized the event,Hizb ut-Tahrir made pamphlets which were distributed online. Haitham al-Hadad, a Saudi-trained Salafist Muslim, told the crowd that he was proud of their coming together so quickly.
“This gathering today – in a matter of a few hours, hundreds of brothers and sisters coming together – is a sign of positivity and revival, and a sign of victory for Allah,” al-Hadad said.
