[UPDATE: 11:25 a.m. EST.] Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office confirmed that nobody was shot.
[UPDATE: 11:20 a.m. EST.] The suspect is now in custody and eleven hostages have been released, according to police.
Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office SWAT officers escorted the suspect from the bank around 11:00 am.
Police officers and hostage negotiators are on scene of a hostage situation is unfolding at a Florida bank stemming from when an armed man was in the process of robbing it.
Authorities arrived on the scene of a bank robbery this morning at Community First Credit Union in Jacksonville, Florida , where authorities said an armed man is holding hostages inside the bank.
About 9:45 a.m., police confirmed the robber was holding 11 hostages inside the bank.
Officials said that there was a 911 call saying that shots were fired inside the bank and that one person may have been shot. Authorities have yet to confirm if someone has been shot.
“The suspect who tried to rob the bank is contained inside the bank,” Melissa Bujeda with JSO said, News 4 Jacksonville reported. “We know multiple people are inside the bank but we haven’t been able to verify if someone has been shot.”
“Some of the immediate area has been evacuated, including nearby businesses,” Bujeda added. “We’re asking for everyone’s cooperation at this time. We want this to be a safe resolution for everybody and we are doing our darnest to make that happen.”
According to officials, SWAT team members are also on scene.
