Check out this mind-blowing story of a man who ejected out of his aircraft at 47,000 feet in to a lightning storm and survived, landing 40 minutes after ejection.
This is a pilot’s worst nightmare. The pilot had to survive a total of 40 minutes in the air facing multiple problems. Any one of these dangerous things could have killed him. Somehow he made it out alive and was able to tell his tale.
William Rankin’s F-8 Crusader failed at 47,000 feet and was forced to eject from the aircraft at freezing cold temperatures and at an incredible speed. He was then dropped into a lightning storm where he faced multiple harsh weather conditions that threw him around like a rag doll.
William Rankin was a World War II and Korean War veteran that served as a pilot for the U.S. Marine Corps.
