Love and marriage are beautiful and thing. Happiness is contagious. As young people, we feel as if we’d have all the time in the world to think about those things. No need to hurry, those things can always be had later in life. However, when as a young Marine NCO the main focus of your life is how to train hard and smart to stay and to keep others alive, those “things” take on a whole new perspective.
With the military engagements in Afghanistan and Iraq looking as if they will go on forever, troops get deployed more frequently than ever in the last 40 years. The U.S. Marine Corps take young and inexperienced 18-years old civilians and grow them into warriors, with responsibilities that well surpassed those of similar young ages. That’s what makes Jessica and Aric’s story so compelling. The celebration of a love story that could have well not taken place after he was deployed with 3rd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment to Afghanistan. The new couple’s engagement was caught at the homecoming at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center. Heartwarming.
