The War in Afghanistan that followed the September 11 attacks on U.S. soil was aimed at dismantling al-Qaeda while denying it a safe basis of operation in Afghanistan by removing it’s Taliban allies from power. It was supposed to be a two phase operation where the U.S. military would take care of al-Qaeda and the Taliban militarily, and then help install a civilian government to bring about change in Afghanistan.
Along the way an ongoing Afghan civil war broke out. The war certainly complicated both the military and political missions, keeping U.S. troops engaged for most of the past decade, with some still engaged to some capacity. That constant engagement has produced plenty of footage of U.S. troops in action, like the ones in this video. Here U.S. Marines can be seen heavily engaged in clashes with Taliban forces. Great kick ass footage.
