November 09, 2016

On Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin showed a positive attitude towards rebuilding diplomatic relations with the United States following the announcement that Donald Trump was the winner of the Presidential election. In addition to sending a telegram to the President-elect, Vladimir Putin made a special statement during a presentation ceremony for foreign ambassadors in Moscow. Even though American leaders have been butting heads with Russian officials over issues such as Syria, Putin seemed very open to the idea of moving past the conflict and once again working with the leaders of the free world.

“We heard [Trump’s] campaign rhetoric while still a candidate for the US presidency, which was focused on restoring the relations between Russia and the United States,” Putin said at the ceremony.

“We understand and are aware that it will be a difficult path in the light of the degradation in which, unfortunately, the relationship between Russia and the US are at the moment,” he added.

Looking forward to a chance to fix relations with a new leader of the United Stated, Putin reiterated that “it is not our fault that Russia-US relations are as you see them.”
