The Northern Indiana VA Healthcare System will begin providing same-day primary and mental health care services for veterans starting on November 11, 2016.
This means that any veteran that needs immediate primary care during regular business hours will receive those services the same day. Some veterans are already have access to same-day services, such as veterans that attend the VA New York Harbor Healthcare System.
Unfortunately same-day services are an alien concept to many veterans. Many veterans are forced to wait weeks and even months to be seen for routine procedures. Immediate primary care is typically more efficient but still leaves many vets unsatisfied with the treatment they receive. Now, any veterans in crisis or in need of immediate care in Northern Indiana will receive attention from a health care professional at any VA medical center under the Northern Indiana umbrella.
The same-day services were made possible by the MyVA Access initiative, an initiative launched to improve veteran and patient experience and satisfaction.
