A senior Iranian military official stated that the United States is in a “strong decline” on Thursday. Hossein Salami, a deputy Revolutionary Guards commander, spoke in front of thousands of Iranians gathered outside a former US mission in Tehran. He told the crowd:
“America is no longer number one and the first power of the world…America’s political will can no longer manage political and military development in… the world of Islam. America’s political power has strongly declined.”
The speech took place during the November 3-4 celebration of the 444-day siege of the embassy when more than 50 diplomats, staff and spies were taken hostage by Islamist students. The siege has secured its place in history for severing relations between the two nations.
The crowd erupted into chants of “Death to America” after Salami’s speech. He went on to warn U.S. military officials not to criticize Iran’s ballistic missile systems, caliming that they are the center of Iran’s military might and citing plans for the country to improve the system.
He finished his speech by saying:
“Our fight with the Americans will continue” Salami said. “Pursuing our ideals in the world of Islam and in Iran, we will recognise no stopping point or red line.
