During last week’s presidential debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, the Taliban watched intently from a secret location in Afghanistan to learn more about their plans for Afghanistan, a Taliban spokesman told NBC News.
We were very interested in watching,” Zabihullah Mujahid said.
The group hoped that the candidates would speak more on the issues and what their intentions are with Afghanistan.
“There nothing of interest to us in the debate as both of them said little about Afghanistan and their future plans for the country,” he said.
The spokesman added that Trump is “non-serious.”
The Taliban was ousted from power in Kabul, Afghanistan with American air support in Operation Enduring Freedom. Since then, the organization has been at war with the U.S-backed government in Kabul.
The United States intends to keep thousands of troops in Afghanistan after President Obama leaves office. Neither Trump or Clinton have spoken much on their plans with Afghanistan after President Obama leaves office, but they both seem to be in favor of leaving troops in Afghanistan.
