Trump Publicly Denounces NYC Bombing Suspect’s Hospitalization And Right To An Attorney

September 20, 2016

Donald Trump publicly denounced the NYC bomber being given hospitalization after his shootout with police during a campaign speech on Monday. Trump is referencing Ahmad Khan Rahami, the Afghan-born citizen turned terrorist. The FBI has confirmed that Rahami was directly linked to bombs placed in Elizabeth, NJ and Manhattan, NY.

Trump used the campaign rally in Florida to point out the absurdity of a Western and American culture-hating terrorist being treated in top-notch medical facilities that were made possible through the culture and values the terrorist holds so much contempt for.  Trump praised first responders for putting their lives on the line to detain Rahami. He then went on to say:

“But the bad part, now we will give him amazing hospitalization, he will be taken care of by some of the best doctors in the world, he will be given a fully modern and updated hospital room.”

Trump has taken a lot of criticism for the statements. Andrew Cuomo accused Trump of suggesting American authorities violate a citizen’s Six Amendment rights if they are accused of crimes similar to Rahami through a backhanded statement. He responded to reporters that questioned him about Trump’s complaints of medical treatment being administered by stating:

“Welcome to America. We have a system of jurisprudence. You’re innocent until proven guilty. You have a right to counsel. And you have the right to hospitalization if you’re ill.”

Many other media outlets have also painted this picture by taking the following quote from Trump out of context:

“On top of all that. He will be represented by an outstanding lawyer. His case will go through the various court systems for years, and in the end people will forget, and his punishment will not be what it once would have been. What a sad situation”

Very few media outlets have acknowledged the remainder of his statement, where Trump specifically states he supports the principles of the Sixth Amendment:

“We must have speedy but fair trials and we must delivery and just and very harsh punishment to these people.”

Trump clearly states that anyone accused of a crime like this should be given a fair trial but goes on to say that they deserve harsh punishment. Listen to his full statement in the video clip below and decide for yourself.
