Taliban Leadership Upset Afghanistan Wasn’t A Major Topic During Presidential Debate

September 28, 2016

From an undisclosed location in Afghanistan, Taliban leadership watched the Presidential debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, this according to NBC News who was told by a Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid:

“We were very interested in watching.  Trump … [says] anything that comes to his tongue.  There nothing of interest to us in the debate as both of them said little about Afghanistan and their future plans for the country.”

The Taliban spokesman also stated that Mr. Trump was “non serious” and had hoped that Afghanistan would have been a more prominent topic in the debate.

It was the Obama administration who authorized the troop draw-down in Afghanistan to which Mr. Trump had this to say on it in November of last year:

“Unfortunately, it may require boots on the ground to fight the Islamic State. I don’t think it’s necessary to broadcast our strategy. (In fact, one of the most ridiculous policy blunders President Obama has committed was to announce our timetable for withdrawal from Iraq and Afghanistan.) If military advisers recommend it, we should commit a limited–but sufficient–number of troops to fight on the ground.”

Whether the Obama administration emboldened the Taliban by announcing a draw-down of US troops, one thing is certain, the Taliban are rapidly gaining ground in Afghanistan and widespread corruption is crippling US efforts in the country.  This of course is the product (indirect or direct) of the last eight years of the Obama administration, the same administration who supports Hillary Clinton in her bid for President of the United States.
