The campaign of Oregon Governor Kate Brown accepted a donation of $250,000 from anti-gun billionaire Michael Bloomberg in support of her run for governor this year.
Bloomberg’s donation, which is Brown’s largest single contribution ever, follows her announcement back in July that she plans to pursue a series of gun control legislation to combat gun violence in the state. She urged Congress to ban all assault weapons and enact no fly/no buy gun legislation.
Brown has been an avid gun control supporter, considering she signed a bill last year that would expand background checks on gun transfers.
Over the past several years, Bloomberg has donated $2.6 million to Oregon political campaigns.
The $250,000 donation equals that of his gun control advocacy group Everytown for Gun Safety’s donation to John Kitzhaber’s campaign in 2014 as well as House Majority Leader Val Hoyle’s campaign.
Brown is running against Republican candidate Dr. Bud Pierce. Pierce has raised $2.6 million for his campaign, while Brown has raised $3.6 million.
