Jesus Alfredo Guzman Salazar, Son of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, was reportedly kidnapped by a rival cartel at a upscale Mexican restaurant at approximately 1:00 am local time on Monday. Surveillance footage has confirmed the abduction and caught the whole even on film. Seven men armed with what appear to be assault rifles storm the restaurant taking up to 15 people hostage, including Salarzar. El Chapo is the currently-imprisoned leader of the Sinaloa cartel, one of the most powerful organized crime syndicates in Central America. Authorities believe the the Jalisco New Generation cartel is responsible for the abduction.
A group of 16 people can be seen dining when the men storm “La Leche” in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Six of the men in attendance were led out of the restaurant and into a series of waiting SUVs. Nine women who were in attendance were not taken and one patron is unaccounted for, police believe the 16th person was able to escape during the attack. Authorities have confirmed that they believe one of the men taken was Salazar, El Chapo’s youngest son. Local authoriites also believe that one of the other men taken was a second of El Chapo’s sons but have not confirmed those allegations.
