An Emirates Boeing 777 crash landed at Dubai International Airport on Wednesday and exploded on the runway. All 300 passengers on board were able to escape the burning aircraft.
The aircraft departed from India around 10 am local time and was set to arrive in Dubai at 12:50 pm.
During the crash landing, an engine on the right wing of the plane was torn off as it was skidding down the runway. Passengers and crew were forced to rush and escape the aircraft before it erupted. Black smoke surrounded the plane and all flights were cancelled at the airport and are set to resume at 6:30 pm local time.
The Dubai government media office said that all on board were able to evacuate and no injuries were reported. Of the 300 people on board, 282 were passengers and 18 were a part of the crew.
Emirates Airline said that the crash was due to an “operational incident” after touching down, but they did not mention the real cause of the crash. It is suspected that the landing gear was not fully extended at the time of landing, leading to a belly landing, which is what appears to have occurred based on social media postings.
Videos surfaced online of the plane exploding after the crash landing.
