Intercontinental ballistics missiles are weapons designed to reach well across continents and deliver massive payloads against enemy countries. Until now, the U.S. has developed robust defenses that would be able to deter any attack on U.S. soil. However, Russia is working is developing technology that could compromise these defenses.
The Sarmat, a super-heavy thermonuclear armed intercontinental ballistic missile, or “Heavy” ICBM, is being designed to deliver a massive amount of nuclear warheads. The missile carries so many warheads that it will be able to confuse and beat U.S. defenses. Its large payload would allow for up to 10 heavy warheads or 15 lighter ones, and/or a combination of warheads and massive amounts of countermeasures designed to defeat anti-missile systems. It sure sound scary. Should we be worried?
