ISIS fighters claim that London and Washington D.C. will be the next cities to be targeted by Jihadi attacks. Several images threatening the two national capitals have surfaced on the popular Jihadi messaging service “Telegram” according to analysts at SITE Intelligence Group. One photo features a picture of the Statue of Liberty in flames with the words “Washington Soon” emblazoned across the bottom of the image.
The SITE Intelligence Group is still investigating the validity of the threats to determine whether or not the threat is credible. They warn that the recent terrorist attack in the church of St Etienne du Rouvray in Normandy, France, where a Catholic priest was beheaded during Mass, could be an indication that terrorist attacks could become more brazen.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner, Neil Basu, has issued an official warning to Catholic churches across Europe urging them to be on high alert. He said in an official statement:
“Following recent events in France, we are reiterating our protective security advice to Christian places of worship and have circulated specific advice today. We are also taking this opportunity to remind them to review their security arrangements as a precaution.”
The attack in France involved several ISIS members storming a Catholic church during Mass, forcing the priest to his knees, then slitting his throat and semi-beheading him on camera. All Europeans have been provided with what intelligence officials call “specific advice” on how to remain safe.
National security officials fear that the recent French church attack and Priest ‘beheading’ could inspire other Jihadists into action and that the footage obtained during the attack will be used in future propaganda films.
