According to Fort Jackson officials, a senior non-commissioned officer died on Thursday after completing a two-mile run for a fitness test.
The drill sergeant from Delta Company, 120th Adjutant General Battalion, who has yet to be identified, finished the final event of a semi-annual Army physical fitness test before collapsing, according to a news release by Fort Jackson spokesman, Patrick Jones.
The non-commissioned officer was taken to Providence Medical Center and pronounced dead at 7:56 am. He was attending the Senior Leader Course at the base.
According to Jones, the officer worked in the reception area of the fort.
The Army is currently investigating the death and we will report on any further details that emerge.
