Susan Rice was relentlessly chastised by Obama administration critics after she appeared on five Sunday morning talk shows to blame the 2012 Benghazi attack on a youtube video. A recently released report indicates that State Department officials were horrified and disgusted by her appearance on national television because, they, like most, knew she was flat-out lying to the public about the cause of the attack.

The newly released Benghazi Committee Report reveals that the Republican-controlled committee discovered emails that State Department employees in Washington D.C. that had spoken with allies on the ground in Libya after the attack universally condemned Rice’s statements. Several others commented on Rices audacious appearance.
- The State Department’s Senior Libya Desk Officer wrote in an email to a colleague: “I think Rice was off the reservation on this one.”
- Deputy Director of the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs responded by saying: “Off the reservation on five networks!”
- The bureau’s Senior Advisor for Strategic Communications agreed in an email stating: “Yup, Luckily there’s enough in her language to fudge exactly what she said/meant.[The White House is] very worried about the politics, This was all their doing.”

The report went on to reveal that Rice was not briefed by the CIA, Defense Department, or State Department officials before appearing on live television. Instead, she was briefed by Barack Obama‘s 2012 campaign manager, David Plouffe.
