Op-ed: UCLA Shooting Brings Awareness To The Insanity Of Anti-Gun Laws

Ok we had another college shooting. What happens within the first few minutes of it being broadcast in the media? The questions start, “What can we do to stop these?” and “How can we stop shootings on our campuses?” Well first you have to look at what is currently in effect and is it working.

[revad1]

Since this shooting took place in California at UCLA you can surmise that Cal. has some of the strictest gun laws in the nation. Magazine sizes, firearms types, and more are strictly controlled there. Did any of those laws help to stop or lessen the impact of this shooting. Obviously the answer is an emphatic NO. Did the current law against murder stop it from happening? Again its NO. Did the threat of the possibility of the victim being able to protect themselves make is less likely to happen or make the attacker rethink their approach? Again NO because the victim in this case is a college professor who by Cal. Law is not allowed to protect himself at work. Are you beginning to see the pattern of stupidity here?

Gun free zones, more gun control laws and wearing orange on June 2nd (today) to show unity for better gun control laws does nothing to help stop attacks or lessen the carnage. It has been shown time and time again these things are pointless and do nothing to help. So if that’s true why do so many people continue to support things that do nothing? Because the media and anti-firearms rights groups say so and are backed by millions of dollars that can help them get the word (even if it’s false and untrue) out and people believe whatever they hear without researching anything on their own.

So you ask, “OK Mr. Smartypants, what is your suggestion!?” Well let’s use common sense. I know that idea has been dead for a decade or so but bear with me. What stops these attackers when the cops get there? Well they either kill themselves when confronted, give up, or die from being shot. Why? Because they do not want to be confronted. They are cowards at heart. So what can we do to make it harder for them to commit the acts they are?

Let me make this very clear, from my 35+ years in Law Enforcement and firearms instruction: “THE ONLY WAY TO STOP AN ARMED SUSPECT IS TO MEET THEM WITH EQUAL OR MORE FORCE”. No I don’t mean to scream but how hard is it to think this through? Cops carry guns because we may meet and do meet armed suspects all the time. So why should the citizens be different? At the minimum people should have the choice to be able to carry a concealed firearm if they want. And at the best, allow people the choice (since it is their right guaranteed by the Constitution) to carry however they want. Campus firearms carry prohibitions only help suspects! Let staff and students carry if they so choose.

Currently in the state of Florida to get a concealed license you must go through a background check, fingerprinting and swear under oath you are not addicted to drugs or alcohol, are not a convicted felon, and have taken some kind of training course. What do you know about the other students and staff on campus? With CWL holders being more than times less likely to commit a serious crime than even the police I worked with, they are a better bet than most.

It is time to stop the stupidity and perpetuating the lies of the anti-gun crowds funded by millions of dollars and the anti-gun mainstream media. Allow people to defend themselves! You want to pass some laws to help? Pass a law outlawing “Gun Free Zones”! Pass a law allowing campus carry. Pass a law that allows people to choose how they want to carry. Hard targets are called that because they are hard to harm! STOP THE INSANITY!!
