The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, commonly known as ISIS, has reportedly burned 19 Yazidi women to death in cages for refusing to be sex slaves for the terrorist group.
Local activists reported that the incident took place recently, in Mosul in Iraq, and that the 19 women were burned alive. Reports are in The New York Times and The Independent.
“They were punished for refusing to have sex with ISIS militants,” according to Abdullah Al-Malla, a local media activist, who spoke to the Kurdish news agency ARA News.
According to reports, another eyewitness said the execution took place in public, in front of “hundreds of people.”
The 19 girls were reportedly locked inside a cage and set on fire.
As part of its ethnic cleansing efforts, ISIS has been trying to eliminate the Yazidi people.
ISIS has reportedly taken thousands of Yazidi women and girls into custody in order to use them as sex slaves, which they say their religion allows.
