The veteran in the video states that being rescued by his own division was only one of several major surprises in this story. He claims that the biggest shock was waking up to find that the Germans that had taken them captive had fled in the middle of the night out of fear the Americans would soon catch up.
This veteran was given the choice of a lifetime after the Germans retreated, stay with the other POWs or resume his position in his own division.
