The United States Air Force is currently looking for a way to improve their air superiority by advancing flight technology without breaking the already shrinking and tightening budget. Boeing’s new advanced F-15/2040C upgrade program could be the key to solving the issue.
Last year, Congress mandated that the U.S. Air Force have at least 1,900 fighter aircraft in its arsenal but with the shrinking and tightening budget it is seeming less likely that they will be able to do that, especially since it is time the United States received a long overdue upgrade.
Other countries are closing the technology gap as United States fighter platforms are aging without proper replacements. Congress even considered putting the F-22 back in production so that the United States can keep up with foreign country’s advancing technology. However, it seems unlikely that would happen as the production of more F-22’s would be incredibly expensive. Back in 2012, F-22 production was brought to a halt and only 187 were produced because of the enormous price tag.
In order to solve the issue, Boeing has created the advanced F-15/2040C upgrade program to combine technology from Boeing’s Silent Eagle program with some more modern technology to create one of the most deadly fighters on the planet.
