The al-Shaer gas field is a location where a number of battles between the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and the Syrian government for the control over the Sha’er gas field during the Syrian Civil War have taken place over a period of two weeks between 28 October – 6 November 2014.

Following the fierce battles, the Syrian army recaptured the al-Shaer gas field from the Islamic State (IS). The fight for the territory caused significant destruction to the gas field’s facilities, especially the main plant, which feeds into the Hayan gas field, from where gas is distributed to networks along the coast and to the south.
