A reader sent us the sad news that World War II veteran and hero, Raymond P. Nagell, Jr. passed away last week at the age of 94.

Nagell Jr. served with the 101st Airborne Division, 321st Glider Artillery during World War II and fought at Utah Beach on D-Day as well as at Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge.
Utah Beach was the code name or the westernmost landing beach during the Allied invasion of France on D-Day in the Normandy landings. Nagell Jr. served with the 101st Airborne Division under the command of Major General Maxwell Taylor.
At the end of the Battle of the Bulge at Bastogne, the 101st Airborne suffered massive casualties as 341 were killed, 1,691 were wounded and 516 were missing.
