All pilots have most likely seen the film at least one time in their life, since it has become one of the most iconic military films of the 20th century. Some might have even been inspired to become pilots after the first time they saw the film.
The film stars Tom Cruise as Maverick, who is an excellent young pilot but at the same time very arrogant and bold. But if you’re a Navy pilot, what’s new?
The film originally did not get good ratings by critics when it first came out and still today does not score too well, as shown by Rotten Tomatoes 55% rating. Apparently Rotten Tomatoes isn’t American!
However, the film soared to heights that critics never expected it to. It bolstered the reputation of multiple actors such as Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer and has also brought in $353 million worldwide in box office totals.
Top Gun 2 has been an idea mulled over multiple times by director Jerry Bruckheimer, but if he were ever to create the film, it would be unlikely for it to reach the same heights as the original Top Gun directed by Tony Scott.
