According to a Pike County Sheriff’s office press release, the three suspects entered the home of the 36 year-old father around 2:30 A.M. The father, who has remained unnamed, heard the three men breaking into his house.

One of the three suspects was carrying a gun. The father announced the break in to the authorities and got into an altercation with the three suspects. He managed to get a hold of the weapon one of the suspects was carrying and started to shoot at them as they fled the home.

One of the suspects, Javonte King, 21, was shot multiple times and found dead by police roughly 200 yards from the home of the father. The other two suspects, Anthony Jerome Starks, 23, and Davaris Mendenhall, 20, were found shortly after by police unharmed.

The pair were arrested and later charged with first degree robbery as well as murder. Pike County Sheriff Russell Thomas said “each man is charged with murder because he and another person caused the death of Javonte King during an armed robbery.”

“No charges are being filed against the homeowner. He was acting in self defense,” Thomas added.

Starks is being held with a $500,000 bond while Mendenhall is being held without bond because he already has prior robbery charges against him in Pike County.
