It is reported that “the injured tourist was climbing down the Great Wall by a high stepladder. However, his backpack got caught in the stepladder, he lost balance and fell,” according to Yang Zan, a local firefighter in the area.
The tourist was wrapped by a friend of his to keep him warm until he could taken care of by proper personnel and since the accident, he has been discharged from the hospital with an injured leg and waist.
The wall in its totality has been measured to be roughly 13,000 miles but that includes all of its branches and areas of trenches and natural defensive barriers. The wall dates back to 200 BC.
The most visible part of the wall, the “Ming walls” built by the Ming dynasty between 1368-1644 measure roughly 5,500 miles.
