Will Ferrell has decided to pull out of a politically-driven movie in which he would have played a dementia-stricken Ronald Reagan to make the former President and national icon look bad. The premise of the film immediately drew criticism from Alzheimer’s awareness groups and family members of the deceased President.

Ferrell would have portrayed Reagan as he entered his second term and begins to battle dementia. In the film, directed by Mike Rosolio, an intern would then be tasked with convincing Reagan that he is playing the President in a movie. Ferrell was reportedly set to star in the film but pulled out after a massive backlash from members of the Reagan family and other victims of Alzheimer’s disease.
