Until recently, world powers have decided to provide help to their side via proxy, avoiding an all-out war that could be seen as a violation of the country’s sovereignty. And it was. However, with the advent of ISIS, Syria provided Russia with the perfect excuse to meddle in the Syrian civil war directly. With the excuse of going after ISIS, Russia has attacked and nearly wiped out most of the government’s opposition forces. This video shows heavily-armed Russian special forces, who a few weeks ago helped secure the strategically-important hilltop town of Salma for their ally, President Bashar al-Assad.
