Hand to hand combat is the ultimate stage of military engagement. When all the bullets have been spent, and one is too close to the enemy for close air support to be effective, there’s nothing left to do other than to go “mano a mano”. This form of combat is what have been dubbed martial arts, close combat, physically defeating opponents and defending against threats.

In this video, we get the opportunity to see the martial arts or close combat style of the Russian Special Forces, aka the Spetsnaz Vityaz. Their full name is 1st Special Purpose Unit of the Internal Forces “Vityaz”. It was assigned specifically to counter-terrorism duties, but was trained to deal with civil unrest, prison rebellions and mutinies of regular army units. Here they are.
