Richard Branson, the outgoing billionaire mogul of the Virgin empire is back with another viral sensation: a supposed “leaked” video of him digging up a chest, thought to be filled with gold in on the British Virgin Island of Miskito.

It began with this tweet in which treasure hunter Mel Fisher says a newly surfaced video of Branson may have made a major treasure discovery:
Here is the video in question:
Branson then posted a blog on the Virgin website confirming that he was giving an interview on the island when he was alerted to the discovery and came down to help dig it out. He goes on to claim that he urged no footage be released in case people tried to steal the chest.
To make it more salacious, Branson quoted a member of the British Virgin Islands government, writing:
Dr. Kedrick Pickering, Deputy Premier of the Virgin Islands, said: “This could be probably the largest find of treasure in the BVI, probably throughout the entire Caribbean, ever! I can only hope that the treasure will be used to support the people of the British Virgin Islands and their overall development and the betterment of the country. But of course, knowing Sir Richard as I do, I would expect nothing less. I would expect he will do all in his power to ensure this is used for the benefit of the British Virgin Islands.”
Color us skeptics but the timing of this “discovery” is a bit suspect, falling on the day before April Fool’s Day. Also, that treasure seemed to be buried a bit shallow.
