A U.S. patrol was headed back to FOB Sperwan Ghar in Kandahar province when things took a turn for the worst.
They were ambushed by Taliban forces. This put these troops in a very tough situation as there were numerous IEDs in the area and traveling off-road would make triggering one much more likely.
