The reign of notorious drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman came to a bloody close in an early morning raid in the seaside city of Los Mochis in Sinaloa state, Mexico.

The raid was executed by the Mexican navy in conjunction with other agencies at 4:30am local time (6:30am EST) at El Chapo’s seaside home which resulted in numerous of his men killed.
The news went public when Mexican President Enrique Nieto tweeted:
Misión cumplida: lo tenemos. Quiero informar a los mexicanos que Joaquín Guzmán Loera ha sido detenido.

Mexican authorities snared drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman in a bloody raid Friday aimed at capturing one of the world’s most notorious and slippery criminals.
“Mission Accomplished,” Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto announced Friday via Twitter. “We have him.”
