“Hipster Terrorist” That Entered U.S. As Refugee Busted In CA Trying To Join Al-Qaeda

January 08, 2016

24 year old Mohammed Younis Al-Jayab is not your average looking terrorist, but make no mistake he is a trained and experienced killer.

Thursday Al-Jayab was arrested in Sacramento, California in a string of arrests that also lead to the detainment of 24 year old Omar Faraj Saeed al Hardan in Houston, TX.

Al-Jayab is an Iraqi-born Palestinian refugee who came to the U.S. in 2012, however investigations found that not only did he lie about his past but he had once fought in Syria and planned to return.

According to accounts of his social media conversations, he claims he joined the fighting in Syria at 16 and killed numerous Syrian government officials. It was his goal to return and help the al Nusrah Front – al-Qaeda’s affiliate in the region.

His arrest lead to the arrest of his relatives back in Wisconsin. What is so shocking about all of this is how normal he appeared, especially to the public on social media. Gelled hair, cool clothes and persona earned him the nickname the “hipster terrorist.”

Check out some of his Facebook photos:

From the Daily Mail:

From his pictures on Facebook, Aws Mohammed Younis Al-Jayab looks like any other millenial with a wardrobe of Nike sneakers, Ray-Ban sunglasses and flannel shirts.

But federal officials say the 23 year old was living a double life – one as a refugee starting a new life in America and another as a young man anxious to return to the Middle East to fight in the Syrian Civil War.

The Iraqi-born Palestinian man was arrested Thursday in Sacramento, California on charges he was plotting to travel to Syria to join the al-Nusra Front terrorist organization.
