The C-130 Hercules is a truly badass plane. Designed originally as a cargo plane capable of takeoff and landing from any unprepared runway, it has evolved to fulfill several other roles.
The basic airframe is built by Lockheed, with Boeing being responsible for the conversion into gunboat and aircraft support. The AC-130A Gunship II superseded the AC-47 Gunship I in the Vietnam War. After 50 years on service, seeing this bad boy in the firing range is always a pleasure.
Is the AC-130 the best long serving aircraft in the U.S. Air Force history? Sound off and share your opinions and comments in the section below!
