Minutes before the devistating attacks on Pearl Harbor, Japanese bombers sank 27 PBY “flying boats” moored in Kāne‛ohe Bay at a near by U.S. airbase, making air support during the attacks harder.

30 feet deep in the murky bay lies one of the first planes lost in the assault, apparently shot down while trying to take off.
For the last 20 years divers and scientists have tried in vein to explore and photograph the plane but to no avail….until now.
